Barbara Tobin Klema

I use transparent watercolor to express my feelings about the natural world. My art is motivated by the dynamic beauty that I find around me. The diversity of the world is very inspiring. I strive to show the variety of life from the most silent and simple to the extremes of noise and wildness. Although my painting is often representational, I do not try to reproduce a photographic image of a certain location, exactly as it appears to the eye, but rather I wish to capture the essence of my personal understanding of place. Lying somewhere between the abstract and the realistic, I wish to convey a sensation or an experience; such as a quality of light, a feeling of isolation, a storm, a season, or the beauty observed in a combination of color and/or form.
