Maryellen Morrow

My work moves from form to formlessness creating a balance between clarity and uncertainty. An image in my mind that lies between the obvious traces of experience and the mysterious area we all reach to touch but find so elusive. The visuals around me consciously guide my way, sometimes causing me to be adrift with my ideas. The layers of unconsciousness that become buried in my work appear and disappear as if the life of the canvas is actively participating. Knowing when to resist one last brush stroke keeps my painting from being a curiosity and instead encourages one to return over and over again for the whisper of life that lies within the layers.
